the elitism of premium users

let’s take spotify as our first example.

spotify has more updates than the meals i have. i used to consider spotify my comfort app but things have changed now. spotify ad’s are alright- it makes sense to have ad’s that constantly propagate the greatness of spotify premium and why everyone should purchase it. it made sense to close the app and open it whenever the ad’s came through. i was slightly mortified when the lyrics feature abruptly refused to show. maybe it’s an error in my phone, i thought. however, the maniacal episode continued for more than a day, it’s been nearly 108 hours since i made that horrible discovery.

now, i can’t even skip more than six songs. isn’t liberty a fundamental right? what if my idea of my liberty is listening to music on the spotify app with lyrics and without finite skips? isn’t my human right being violated?

apart from this discombobulating rant, i’m going to actively contribute to capitalism and consider paying for spotify premium. my parents obviously disapprove of it. however, i must have my daily dose of main character moments; listening to a mix of jazz rap, chill pop and auto-tuned rap as my college bus glides through the entirety of my city, always choosing to drop me last.

  1. i’m a bit late to this, and you might’ve already got premium – but a great alternative is to just download a spotify premium mod. i’ve had it for months – no ads at all, free skips but the lyrics dont show up :(( but its definetly worth it, since it’s free.

i hate the new updates too 😦
