Summer Binge-Watching: My First Week Must-Sees (Or Nots..)

welcome back! i’m currently on summer vacation right now and being the productive person i am, i aim to absolutely exhaust my netflix membership by watching almost everything that has been put up there.

enjoy this list of shows i watched during the first week of summer break!

“how do you do this thing where you manage to get all girls to hate us?”

the social network

after a bunch of my friends telling me to watch it, i decided i’d lock in and watch the social network to see what the hype was all about. firstly, i’ve never seen a main character act as obnoxious, entitled and overbearing than this one.

i think the beauty of the movie lies in its title. ironic how it’s called the social network but the mark himself is a first-class ivy leagued villain. i’m only using villain for the lack of a better word. however, the writing of the movie, the acting and the direction are all factors that render it a modern classic.

“wanting those people to be punished properly.. is that too much to ask?”

– the devil judge

the devil judge is one of those k-dramas that really makes you think. the concept of a system in a dystopian south korea where the public are the judges might seem like it’s all in favor of punishing the wrongdoers and securing justice. however, the writing of this k-drama unravels character arcs and plot twists much deeper than that.

the beauty of the devil judge lies in the intricate character development. however, this is also a bit of a flaw. throughout the course of the episodes, i cannot help but wonder if many of the killings and twists were merely a means to advance the plot. in the larger scheme of things, however, everything does seem to add up.

watching this drama wasn’t just a thought provoking memory but it was an out of body experience.

“i don’t know what i’m watching.”

– nikitha.

i recently finished watching “my life with the walter boys,” and at the end of the series i can safely say that i’m over joyed that i do not live with the walter boys. everything about this series feels like it was picked up from multiple wattpad books, all with less than three star ratings and then coupled into a drama script.

looking at the writing of the show made me realise that i truly could make it as a writer. obviously this is not an exaggeration and the true highlight of the show was katherine, the mother, played by sarah rafferty who also played donna in the suits. i only finished the show for her.

the absolute lack of remorse, lack of character development and gaping plot holes had me wide-eyed at 3 am in the morning wondering why i was tormenting myself by watching this hot mess of a show.

ending thoughts

overall i hope you left this post with both a cautionary tale as well as two good recommendations!

until the next time,
nikitha !
