I said I was Truthful
This is a review of the k-drama True Beauty, not the webtoon. The webtoon’s way too long for me to read it, but I probably will because I have lots of time in my hands. I just got to know that my exams don’t start until April, and it’s all online- I was so triggered over nothing.

Trust me, I’ve heard quite a lot about True Beauty- most of it from my friends, and it being all over the internet. I didn’t really want to watch it, but I was really bored three days ago and so I decided why not?
True Beauty Is A Scam.
And I like it.

I’d give it 🌟🌟🌟
The aesthetics of the drama are spot on, and the fashion is immaculate. Not immaculate as such, but the co-relate really well with the story.
Intro
True Beauty basically is about this high school student called Im Ju-Kyung. Since she was little, she has had a complex about her appearance. To hide her bare face, Im Ju-Kyung always wears make-up. Her excellent make-up skills makes her pretty and she hides her bare face in front others. She gets involved with 2 men; Lee Soo-Ho and Han Seo-Joon.

— that’s the basic synopsis without spoilers —
Characters
Ju-Kyung– She is really likeable, honest and has a good heart. I liked the character development, and though it seemed like she made a fuss out of everything and cried a lot at times, she always had the right intentions. However she’s so indecisive, it made me want to rage. She is so clueless and is the textbook definition of “dumb blonde”. But her character development is just>>>
I’d give her character a 🌟🌟🌟
She’s fine really, and she’s really strong so I appreciate that. But for me, I think her faults and her definition of “beauty” overshadow her strengths. She’d be a nice person to have as a friend, but not someone to pursue as a romantic interest.
We all saw what happened to Han Seojun.

Suho Lee- He seems a bit zoned-out at times, but it’s cute. He and Ju-Kyung are perfect together and that’s how it should have been. He’s a bit posessive but I think that’s because he just really likes Ju-Kyung. He’s really mentally strong, really cool and collected considering his childhood. (Bad unfaithful dad- best friend debuted as idol- best friend committed suicide and Suho was the last person he called aka trauma).
I’d give his character a 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Han Seojun- You know what? Fuck Ju-Kyung, Han Seojun I’ll take care of you. This guy has absolutely no flaws, he’s the funniest, wittiest, smartest person ever. He feels so deeply and is a bit of tsundre so I guess that’s why he might appear cold hearted on the first impression.
He caught my attention because he just has so much stage presence hehe, and he deserves better. I wish he’d found someone who’d love him back.
I’d give his character a 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Plot
The first 6 episodes are the best. The first episode has excellent cinematography and the story-telling in it is just subpar. Ju-Kyung’s backstory and her innate insecurities were delivered really well.
The Plot is such a cliche, and the story is really nothing new. It’s a creative dump, seems like something written off-the top of someone’s head. The cliche however, was delivered well, and that’s all that matters.
We fell not for the male lead, but for the secondary lead and got our hearts broken. That’s exactly what happens in these types of cliche’s and I’d do it all over again.

The backstory is kinda meh, and Jugyeong’s actions are relatable. It’s what everyone would do, and the results are exactly what would happen. She had her trials and errors, everyone has theirs. Her pictures getting leaked did her more good than harm, and she recovered from it as a stronger person.
Plot rating: 🌟🌟🌟
Side Characters and Ships
I was more invested in Jugeyong’s brother’s love life than hers actually. It’s so endearing to see her brother chase after a girl only to get rejected over and over again, and then finally get accepted. I also liked Jugyeong’s sister’s attitude, and her character development and mind prowess was waay more prominent.
I think Suho and Jugyeong make a good pair.

I liked Jugyeong’s ex-friend-turned-bully at first, but her actions were just random and really mean. She had a bad homelife and bad coping mechanisms. I hope she got over that, and I liked how Jugyeong immediately was ready to forgive her. That’s one of the major things I loved about Jugyeong- how she was so pure and ready to forgive and forget.
I liked all the side characters especially the male ones. The male side characters were hilarious.
Final Thoughts aka Seojun alone hours
wait so Seojun is mixed????? half korean half mine
Seojun deserved better and I’ll forever hate the creator for not giving Seojun the ending he deserved.
I liked how the K-drama ended right at Prince Comics- the place where everything theoretically started.
I like how the rejection/ I-don’t-like-you-that-way didn’t make me resent Suho or Jugyeong. The ending was mature, and it was cool of Suho and Seojun to go for drinks too.
I like how Suho liked Jugyeong from the start, he liked her without the make up, with the makeup- his feelings were genuine and pure and there right from the start. I loved that aspect.

So now let’s talk about ME!!!
I officially got my black belt in karate yesterday. I’d finished giving the tests and fighting tournaments and stuff like that last year. But then COVID happened and the whole cermony got postponed.
Having a black belt tied around your waist feels really good. The texture of the belt is just oof-
I’ve been listening to a lot of SEVENTEEN songs lately. I’d always head of them, and I loved their recent comeback Home;Run. The mini-album was a bop, and I liked Do Re Mi and Home;Run the most.
Out of all the SEVENTEEN songs I’ve listened to, I’d say I like 독 aka Fear the most!

I will cry about Seojun for some more time, and then I’ll start reading the True Beauty webtoon.
I made a Pinterest board for True Beauty too, so go show it some love😊

I haven’t watched the drama, but the Webtoon does drag a little after season one. Home Run is what got me into SVT. Do Re Mi is one of my favorite b side tracks ever ❤️ Congrats on the black belt! 👏
